GARRETT COUNTY, Md. — A two-alarm fire at Friends Stockyard has left some animals dead and others loose.
Flames broke out around 5:19 Wednesday evening.
The two story arena type structure had holding pens attached to it for live stock.
Unfortunately the fire killed three cows and injured three hogs.
Several others escaped, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.
One firefighter was treated on scene for minor injuries.
While the cause remains under investigation, the Fire Marshal said there's no evidence of a criminal act, and "cannot rule out an extension cord plugged into a skid steer or a portable heater."
The Friends Stockyard has been a community staple for the last 50 years.
